How QuickBoot works with SecureBoot

Standard SecureBoot establishes a Chain of Trust by verifying signatures at each boot stage -- bootloader through OS kernel. When QuickBoot is introduced, the snapshot image becomes a new link in that chain. QuickBoot's SecureBoot integration extends the chain to cover both the QuickBoot core modules and the snapshot image itself.

QuickBoot cooperates with SecureBoot to detect tampering of the snapshot image and QuickBoot modules -- maintaining the Chain of Trust without sacrificing fast-boot speed.

Snapshot tamper risk and mitigation

A snapshot image contains the complete initialized state of the OS stack -- it is high-value data for an attacker. A compromised snapshot could allow malicious code to execute from system startup. QuickBoot's SecureBoot integration detects and blocks this attack vector at restore time.
